Around 1850, a farmer’s son from Syðrugøta settled in Undir Gøtueiði at Skálafjørður. Here, the inhabitants of Gøta had had boats moored at Skipanes for centuries, and they also stored peat fuel, which had been dug up in the Millum Fjarða valley at the end of Skálafjørður in the outfield belonging to Syðrugøta. The easiest way to transport it was by boat.

Several residential houses were built on the site towards the end of the 19th century. Today, Undir Gøtueiði has merged with the other outlying village of Skipanes. They share a small marina here. Undir Gøtueiði has 31 inhabitants.
