The outlying village of Svínáir, which has 43 inhabitants, was established in the late 1820s. The place við Lutastað is the old outlying village, which since the end of the 1980s has grown further with the settlement á Svínánesi north of the old settlement.

Above Svínáir lie the mountains Svartbakstindur at 803 m, Skerðingur at 691 m and Miðalfelli at 654 m.
