The outlying village of Ljósá, locally also called Gimbrarnar after the outfield where the first emigrants settled, was established around 1840. The village, which today has 36 inhabitants, has a sandblasting workshop and a restaurant in the old Brethren congregation’s meeting house, Bet-Kar.
